"So what is he or she like?" That is a question we often ask when we are trying to find out about someone we have never met. If a company is considering hiring someone, they will endeavor to find out everything they can about someone before making that person a job offer. This is why someone came up with a brilliant idea of using a document, referred to as a resume. A resume lets people tell other people all about themselves.
I am sure we would all agree that it is much easier to like and trust someone you know something about than it is a total stranger; and, no doubt, God the Father is a Person we would all benefit from getting to know better. Who on earth would want to put their life in the hands of a total stranger? God knows how we think and that is why He gave us His Resume in a book we refer to as the Holy Bible.
Needless to say, the Bible is actually far more than just a history book. It is a book written and inspired by God about Himself, for all of us. God thoughtfully prepared His resume because He knew from the beginning that we would have a lot of questions about who He was, what He was like, and what He expected from us. From cover to cover, we can read what happened on the very first day to the last days when Christ returns.
So the next time we open our Bibles, it would behoove us to remember that what we are about to read was written by our Maker so that we could get to know Him better. The truth is, the Bible that we hold in our hands is a thoughtful and personable gift from God that He wanted to give to each of us.
