All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, "This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you. You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes."
Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox...(Daniel 4)
America has gotten so used to not trusting in God that we should perhaps change our official motto from "IN GOD WE TRUST" to "IN GOD WE USED TO TRUST." It is obvious that we have supplanted our trust in the Lord with trust in ourselves, and in our own skills, abilities, and technology. We have built another Tower of Babel. Pride has replaced humility in this country and it boldly proclaims, "Look at me and all that I have accomplished!" We no longer even feel the need to pray, "Lord, give us this day our daily bread."
But we see in the Book of Daniel what happened to one man who made the mistake of trusting in himself and patting himself on the back. It would be wise for America to learn from this Bible truth. The Lord knows how deal with pride; and He has a surefire way of teaching humility. Truly, this is one lesson America does not want to learn the hard way. But the truth is, sooner or later, pride will always bring the judgement of God. It is best we learn from the mistakes of King Nebuchadnezzar before it is too late.
